MEETING NOTES

PTA General Meeting

 

Date:  February 19, 2019

Location:  BSES Media Room

Subject:  Monthly General Meeting

Andrea Wilds calls the meeting to order at 6:35pm.

  • Andrea made a motion to approve the meeting minutes from December 10, 2018; VP seconded, passed.

 

Informational Spotlight

  • Principal Hahn presented on ways to help and encourage your child’s learning with math
  • Highlighted valuable resources on the Howard County Website (HCPSS Family Mathematics Support Center)
  • Watched Math in Minute Videos
  • Parent requested that an upcoming testing schedule be available/sent out to parents

Teacher Representative Report – Ms. Waltemire & Ms. Fogler:

  • Thank you for the dinner on parent teacher conference night

 

Administration Report – Principal Hahn:

  • Last day of school is June 21st
  • Staffing for the 2019-2020 school years remains about the same. Will be adding a 0.5 school counselor
  • 100th day of school to be celebrated end of the week.
  • Twin Day 2/22
  • STEM night 3/14
  • Kindergarten registration begins in March

 

President Report – Andrea Wilds:

  • Reviewed calendar of events: Movie Night Feb 22, Ledo Pizza March 13th, Bingo Night March 22, Coal Fire April 29th, Greene Turtle May 15, Alice in Wonderland May 29 & 31st
  • Reviewed open PTA positions: Communications Chair, Staff Appreciation Chair; PTACH Advocacy Chair
  • Communication-discussed different options to provide more effective communication regarding the PTA. Decided that each board member will be responsible for contacting all their chairs and getting an update.  Board member will submit the update to Andrea.  Andrea will compose all updates together to be sent school wide 1-2 times per month, possibly on Sunday evenings.  Reminded all chairs that flyers for events need to be submitted by the Monday 2 weeks prior to the event.
  • Principal Hahn has the ability to send text updates as well but updates are limited to 160 characters

 

Treasurer Report – Aaron Copsey:

  • PTA budget in good standing
  • PTA dues are increasing nationwide so we will need to determine if pricing needs to be altered, especially for staff.
  • PTACH meeting updates-
    • looking at transfer tax and ways to pay for education changes
    • Howard County is the fastest growing county in MD and there could possibly be more redistricting coming in 2020
    • March 11th there will be a rally for educators (Statewide School Funding Rally in Annapolis)
    • Discussions regarding school calendar and the possibility of returning the control of the school calendar back to the individual counties

 

Vice President Report (Fundraising) – Melissa Neally:

  • Review of upcoming Restaurant Nights

 

Vice President Report (Activities) – Jessie Brady:

  • Movie Night status
  • Bingo Night

 

Standing Committee Reports:

  • Bingo Night: Marci Daproza

March 22nd 

Working on collecting prizes for raffles

Sign up genius will be coming out for volunteers

  • Hospitality: Warnette Moultrie

Dinner was provided to staff Feb 14th from Tino’s

Staff very appreciate of the dinner

  • Membership: Vicky Bernal

Will begin to think about membership for 2019-2020 year

Will attend popsicles and playtime for K in June

  • Box Tops :Vicky Bernal

April will be the last month for this school year for boxtops

  • Restaurant Night – Melissa Neally & Blaire Bycoffee

Restaurant nights have been scheduled for entire year

Discussed possibly doing a spirit night in place of a restaurant next year

Plan to continue to have 1/month

  • After School Drama – Karice Parada

Dates for play are May 29th & May 31st

  • Movie Night : Kelly Curtis

February 22nd at 6:30pm-Small Foot

Popcorn and water will be free and concessions available for purchase

  • Spirit Wear: Nikita Alexander

Need to update the flyer and will try and send out to get orders for spring events

  • Community Relations – Adopt A Family – Nikita Alexander

4th grade will be asked to donate books to a family who is displaced to due a house fire

  • Hershey Park: Marla Kegel

Flyer will go out and discussed price for tickets

  • School Supplies

Will use the same supplier as last year EPI.  Warnette has offered to get the order started.  Will need to fill this position before summer.

  • Cultural Arts – Kelley Sanabria

Working with two different vendors for availability and pricing regarding the spring assembly
