 PTA General Meeting


Date:  October 8, 2018

Location:  BSES Media Room

Subject:  Monthly General Meeting

Andrea Wilds calls the meeting to order at 6:30pm.

  • Andrea made a motion to approve the meeting minutes from September 17, 2018; Principal Hahn seconded, passed.


Teacher Representative Report – Ms. Waltemire & Jen Fogler:

  • Heather Moore did a great job at communicating and coordinating for the Fall Festival. Teachers worked very hard making pumpkins and donated many prizes and breakfast/lunch parties
  • Progress reports being sent home tomorrow
  • Kids loved the Cultural Arts assembly with Brent Daniels
  • Question was asked how teachers will keep track of Cheetah Challenge participation; to be discussed with Laura Starita. The class in each grade with the most sponsorship (by number of students) gets a pizza party. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place fundraisers will win individual prizes.


Administration Report – Principal Hahn:

  • 812 students currently enrolled at Bellows, with 97% attendance
  • Long term substitute to start as a Reading Specialist
  • Fall pictures on Oct. 10th, re-takes in November
  • Flu clinic on Oct. 15th
  • Elementary school report card will change next year; new system will be more descriptive and informative
  • Map testing in the next 1-2 weeks, scores are not used to establish grades



President Report – Andrea Wilds:

  • Reviewed calendar of events: Uno’s on Oct. 15th, Cheetah Challenge on Oct. 26th, Movie Night on Nov. 16th, Chipotle on Nov. 28th, Annie Plays on Dec. 13th and 14th
  • Reviewed open PTA positions: Communications Chair, Cheetah Challenge Co-Chair, Staff Appreciation Chair; PTACH Advocacy Chair
  • Discussed having guest speakers at PTA meetings: suggestions included having teachers present by grade and Ms. Kandelman, the school Psychologist, present
  • Interest was also expressed for more information about SEL (Social Emotional Learning). Mrs. Conklin will provide more information in Jan/Feb. regarding SEL and circle learning
  • Interest was also expressed for more information on how common core math is taught


Treasurer Report – Aaron Copsey:

  • Discussed status of audit; awaiting response from PayPal


Vice President Report (Fundraising) – Melissa Neally:

  • Review of upcoming restaurant nights Uno’s Oct. 15th and Chipotle Nov. 28th


Vice President Report (Activities) – Jessie Brady:

  • Watch Dog Night was a huge success, kids loved Victory Martial Arts
  • Movie Night is next event, Nov. 16th

Event was a success; first Watch D.O.G.S. parent started today; Fall schedule is filling up nicely

Spirit wear was sold at Fall Festival; currently working with vendor to provide more options for future spirit wear

  • Restaurant Night – Blaire Bycoffee

Upcoming nights – Uno’s on Oct. 15th; Chipotle on Nov. 28th

  • Cultural Arts – Kelley Sanabria

Brent Daniels did a great job; still seeking an assembly for the spring

  • Fall Festival – Andrea Wilds & Jen Jarrell

Event was a huge success, amazing turn out; raffle sales were great; will be in need of a new Fall Festival chair for next year

  • Cheetah Challenge – Laura Starita

Planning is underway; Envelopes are being distributed in Friday folders, emails and fliers to go out as well; still in need of volunteers

  • Community Relations

Discussed possible coat drive
